War Trash is a novel about a Chinese soldier with the People’s Volunteer Army fighting for the Communists in the Korean war. He is captured by United Nations forces and imprisoned as a POW. It is written in the form of a memoir. It is an moving story of loneliness and hardship; certainly one of Jin’s best novels.
It won the Pen/Faulkner Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
In their review of War Trash, Publishers Weekly said, “His (Jin’s) gaze is unfiltered, camera-like, and the images he records are all the more powerful for their simple honesty.”
This copy is in fine/fine condition. The book is unread. The pictorial boards are unusual. The dust jacket is as new. The dust jackets on these true first editions are an inch shorter than the book, so that the design on the boards shows at the top and bottom of the book.
It is signed on the title page by Jin, as you can see. I had it signed in person at a University reading.
Signed true first like this one go for about $100 to $200. Later editions or copies with minor condition issues can be found for as low as $40. The highest priced copy on-line today is a signed uncorrected galley proof.
