- Carry Me Down
- M.J. Hyland
- Canongate, U.K. 2006
Carry Me Down is Hyland’s second novel. It was shortlisted for the 2006 Booker Prize and the 2007 Commonwealth Writer’s Prize. It won the Encore award for best second novel and the Hawthorden Prize for best work of literature.
This particular copy is in fine condition. It is signed and dated in the year of publication. It came with a 2006 Booker Prize bookmark. All these features and awards would normally increase the value of a book, but true first editions just like this one can be found for between $50 and $100 – $30 if you can accept slight condition issues.
I think Hyland is a writer to watch out for. I have loved all three of her novels. I think they will stand the test of time and come to be revered. Buy her signed novels now for dirt cheap and hold on to them.
J.M. Coetzee does not lend his name to many dust jacket reviews. If he wrote a rave review for one of my books, I don’t think I would care too much whether it sold well initially. Many of today’s classics did poorly when they first came out, making first editions that much more valuable when they are finally seen for the treasures they are.
